A friend asked me how church was going last night. He’s not someone who I am church with, but I have known him for several years. It was a genuine question. He knows that church is a big part of my life, and he legitimately cares how things are going for me. I thought it was very cool that he asked.
My response came pretty automatically and unfiltered. I probably over shared for the moment, but the punchline is that I really enjoy how I’m experiencing church these days. Also, I confessed that I’m a little surprised by that. I’ve watched peers contribute really great work, and build really cool things, then get disenfranchised in some way or another and leave the work. I’ve also seen folks slowly plod toward apathy or bitterness while continuing to lead. I feel so grateful that the God has guided me into The Cross Orlando.
The best version of church is a place where you are known, cared for, have room to care for others and are reminded of the Gospel reality. It’s not an easy thing to find, and it’s impossible to do perfectly. Graciously I feel like I am experiencing church in the best of ways right now. Most of the time The Cross Orlando feels like a place where I am known, cared for, have opportunities to care for others and am reminded of the Gospel. It seems like an incredibly kind thing for God to give. Lately, I’ve not been taking it for granted lately.
