It’s been a hot summer. I don’ t think that’s just my perception. I think it can be substantiated. hot.
At our house, Megan has developed very strategic management of our thermostat. It seems like whenever I walk in the door the house feels cool. We have these classic Florida terrazzo floors, big picture windows on the north and south sides of the house that let in lots of indirect natural light and a couple of big trees shading the almost flat florida roof. Our house feels like a cool respite from the sweaty heat outside.
It’s really something to look forward to.
It takes work for it to be that. Someone had to design the house right, then it needs to be maintained. It’s always more enjoyable when it’s clean. The air-filters need to be changed regularly and the floors swept. But when the thing is designed right at the beginning and is maintained along the way…you’ve really got a shelter from the weather that’s beyond control.
I’m sure there’s a life metaphor in there.
Jesus said, “Come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you for my way is easy and my burden light.” A relationship of faith with God through the person of Jesus can really be a safe place amidst a life that is beyond your control. The relationship needs the right ground rules or boundaries; it will need proper maintenance. But when it hits, there’s nothing like it.
It can really be something to look forward to.
